The Foundation is the fundraising body of the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre. It was formed in 1996 by a group of volunteers - some of them cancer survivors - who wanted to raise some money to provide the cancer patients of our community with equipment and facilities, which were second to none in Ontario!
They launched the Dream Weaver Campaign in June 1996 with the ambitious goal of raising $2 million to equip and enhance the planned new Cancer Centre by providing additional equipment and amenities not covered by government funding. Less than two years later, due to the overwhelming support of the community, the total actually raised topped $3 million!
With a CT scanner, MRI machine and two children's waiting rooms, all provided through the Foundation, the Cancer Centre is now the envy of other centres in the province. The Foundation has also provided funds for cutting edge e-chart technology, an outpatient blood lab, comfortable treatment chairs and many other things to improve the treatment and comfort of the patients.
All of the funds raised by the Foundation, through donations and events, remain in this community to fulfil the Foundation's goals of enhancing the care and treatment of cancer patients in Windsor and Essex County, and supporting locally based cancer research.
