Field of Dreams MRI Campaign Celebration
May 23rd, 2006 |
At the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, the successful conclusion of the Cancer Centre Foundation's Field of Dreams MRI Campaign was celebrated with the community members of Windsor and Essex County who made it all possible. Campaign donors, volunteers and local dignitaries witnessed the unveiling of a commemorative statue at the corner of Kildare and Alsace Road and watched as a giant crane lowered the MRI machine into the newly constructed MRI Suite.
The Field of Dreams Campaign was launched in September of 2004 to raise $3.5 million for the purchase of a state-of-the-art MRI machine and the construction of an MRI Suite at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre. The response from the community was phenomenal and, as a result, 2005 became the busiest year for the Cancer Centre Foundation with a record number of fundraising events and donations from people all around Windsor and Essex County who wanted to lend support.

Campaign Chair, Peter Hrastovec, a well-known local lawyer and community volunteer, explained:
“We began this campaign with a target of $3.5 million…a tough assignment in the current fundraising climate…quotes for construction came in higher than expected. The goal was increased to $3.9 million to cover, not only this expense, but to also purchase additional equipment to enable the scanning of small children. Once again, our community rose to the challenge.” |
Local philanthropist Anthony P. Toldo, who kicked-off the MRI Campaign with a
donation of $1 million, announced the total amount raised by the Field of Dreams MRI Campaign, $3,940,000.00.
Mayor Eddie Francis and Warden Michael Raymond thanked the community
for its support of the MRI Campaign and congratulated the Cancer Centre
Foundation on its successful result. |
