Overview

seeds4hopesml2The Board of Directors of the Windsor & Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation believes that all advances in cancer care and prevention are rooted in research. Moreover, they recognize that researchers in Windsor and Essex County are a part of the global effort to learn more about this disease, to find even better solutions and bring us hope. That is why the Cancer Centre Foundation established "Seeds4Hope", an annual grant awards program which provides seed (start-up) funding for locally-based, new and innovative cancer research. This research, based in Windsor and Essex County and supported by our community, brings scientists and physicians together to find better ways to prevent, detect, diagnose and treat cancer.

The Grants
Grants are available for up to $80,000 over a two year period, are non-renewable and are used for approved research-related expenditures. The number of grants approved each year will depend upon funds available and the quality of submissions.

What are Seed Grants?
As the name implies, seed grants are 'start-up' funding and are limited to new research or new approaches to existing cancer research programs. The results produced will have the potential to leverage further on-going funding from traditional agencies such as the National Cancer Institute.

Who Can Apply?
The competition is open to a wide range of research, e.g. laboratory, clinical and psycho-social. Applicants will hold M.D. or Ph.D. degrees and be formally affiliated with a local institution such as the University of Windsor or the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre. Collaborations are encouraged.
